Although I am nowhere near a wine connoisseur, I do have alot of family, friends and clients that enjoy it and when I host or gift my friends a bottle of wine I want to be able to feel confident that I am presenting them with a great bottle of wine! What I have found from speaking to wine lovers and individuals in the wine business is that you don't have to spend a fortune to get a great bottle of wine so here are my go-to's for fantastic wine...and there is a wine for a lover of white, red, rose and sparkling!
Quails Gate – Pinot Blanc – Pinot Gris ($20 Superstore Liquor)
As one of the most iconic wines at Quails’ Gate, this white blend is made in a fresh, fruit-forward style to complement those long summer days making it the #1 selling B.C. White Wine
Kim Crawford - Sauvignon Blanc ($15 Costco Liquor)
New Zealand's intensely flavourful style of Sauvignon Blanc: think gooseberry, pea pods and passion fruit. Vivid and refreshing!
Mission Hill Reserve Chardonnay ($23 Safeway Liquor)
This will never disappoint! A juicy Okanagan Valley Chardonnay loaded with flavours of pear, melon and creamy toffee.
Gérard Bertrand Côte des Roses Rosé ($19 Costco Liquor)
A classically styled blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah. The eye-catching bottle is pretty, but it takes a back seat to the complex, vibrant red fruit, citrus and herbal tones in this crisp delight.
La Marca Prosecco DOC ($18 at most liquor stores)
Here's a bright, off-dry Prosecco with notions of crunchy apple, pear and lemon zest, and an intriguing saline quality. An almond/marzipan character emerges on the finish.
19 Crimes Cabernet Sauvignon ($18 most liquor stores)
Inky purple with aromas of strawberry jam, leather, and sweet spices; the palate is full and dry with medium acidity an soft tannins. Look for big fruity flavours of blackberry, strawberry jam, and vanilla followed by a lengthy, spicy finish.
Redstone Limestone Vineyard Pinot Noir ($22 most liquor stores)
This elegant, expressive Pinot Noir shows sunny strawberry, red cherry, underbrush and smoky spices, with good depth of flavour and brilliant, food-friendly acidity.
Catena Malbec ($20 most liquor stores)
Nicolás Catena helped revolutionize Argentina's wine industry after visiting California in the 1980s. This, his benchmark Malbec, has rich blackberry, blueberry, dark chocolate, exotic spices and mint.
