I love that we set aside a whole day to honor and celebrate the women who raised us and the Moms that raise our children. My mom was an amazing mother who dedicated her life to her children and it is well known that being a Mom is the hardest job in the world! Every year as Mother’s Day gets close, some of us may get some anxiety on the best way to celebrate the Mothers in our lives and especially this year with our limited access to shopping and activities, we may have to get creative HOWEVER more often than not, it is the appreciation shown and acts of service for our Moms that is the best way to show our love and respect for the sacrifices they make.
From my experience, mothers love to spend the day NOT catering to her kids and spouse as they so often spend their days doing. So ensuring that this day is a "put your feet up" kind of day for Mom is key to a great Mothers Day! Below is a list of things that spouses and kids can do for Mom to ensure the Mom in your life has a memorable day!
1. Clean the house!
Such an easy task that costs NO money but let me tell you...this will be hugely appreciated by all moms! And I am not referring to unloading the dishwasher or making your bed.....I am talking about floors, bathrooms and dusting! Yes it sounds awful but You can do it!!
2. Make meals for the day
If you want to make it extra special, don't just make breakfast, make her ALL meals! Yes that sounds like a lot of work and planning but make it less complicated with a homemade breakfast and lunch and then order in her favorite food for dinner! And making sure you are ordering in HER favorite food shows that you are in tune with her likes and dislikes...she will appreciate that!
Not only are meals fantastic but find out her favorite dessert or treat and bake it for her!
4. MAKE her a card and gift
The amount you spend on a gift is not what is important but a homemade card with a message written from the heart will never disappoint! And a picture from the little ones or "coupons" for a massage, foot rub or homemade dinner will always put a smile on her face!
5. Give her some quiet time!
This could be the winner gift of the day! Take the kids out for a car ride or walk (if the weather cooperates) and give mom some time for herself...the gift of time is priceless!
6. Finish up the day playing HER favorite game (card or board game) and a movie
Regardless of what game and movie she chooses.....play and watch it with her!!! So often, mothers make choices based on what the kids would enjoy the most and it is rarely about her.
Other than ordering in dinner (which of course is optional to cooking), all of the above do not involve shopping and spending money on gifts! Moms just want to know that you appreciate everything that she does for you and the best way to show that is to do for her what she does for us on a daily basis! Happy Mothers Day!!!
