According to recent statistics released by the Calgary Real Estate Board, real estate prices in Airdrie have skyrocketed and the number of listings increased in January, the Airdrie Echo recently reported. And, although the volume of January sales was down this year when compared to 2013 -- 67 MLS sales and 75, respectively -- the average selling price was over $50,000 more this year.
The average sale price for a home in Airdrie rose 12 percent from $343,000 in December, and MLS listings increased to 135 from 124 in January. In January, the time it took to sell a home was five days less than it was in December -- 42 and 47 respectively -- the article stated.
January is typically a slow month as many potential home buyers wait until spring to start their housing search, the Airdrie Echo reported. However, with an unusually low amount of MLS listings, competition for available houses has increased, driving the prices up.
